Tonight we took a drive out the to Great Salt Lake, just in time for sunset. We wandered out on the beaches behind Saltair. The focus of this class was F-stop and how it relates to depth of field.
The basics behind this concept are that the higher the F-stop number (which means a smaller opening in the shutter when exposed) the greater the depth of field (or how much stuff is in focus) in the photo. Easy enough, but this has to be balanced, of course, with shutter speed and ISO. As the sun was going down, we got challenged by the rapidly reducing light. This meant constantly bumping up ISO or moving the F-stop down, therefore reducing depth of field. This is because we were trying to keep most of the photo in focus, shooting landscape-type photos.
Another tip that we talked about is how to reduce blurry photos in low light. Just keep shutter speed above 1/60th of a second. Or use a tripod.
I will resize some of the photos we took and post them up today sometime.

Let's get it started
The purpose of this blog is to provide a forum for posting information that we talk about in the Walters Creative photography classes. It is also a place for discussing class projects or questions that any of us may have. So, let's get moving!
